I am Marco Odermatt, ski racer, 23 years old and I come from Nidwalden.
Training
The strength training varies from month to month. We start with the build-up training at the beginning of May. First we train in the basic endurance area on the bike/racing bike or jogging. Afterwards we increase and go in the direction of strength training. At the beginning we put a lot of emphasis on the technique and a clean execution. Then we increase the weight and reduce the number of repetitions until we have reached maximum strength shortly before the start of the season.
In skiing it is of great importance that we also train in the maximum strength range. When you're skiing downhill at 140km/h and the bindings come loose, you'll be glad you did squats with a little more weight so you can cushion it and it won't end in a bad fall. This is certainly reason No. 1. In addition to squats, we also train the snatch and repositioning There we train especially the quickness.
In addition, we can also strengthen the mental area at the same time, just stand and know, now it counts, everything for the one repetition. This is also very good for me personally.
Personal Records
My personal bests in max strength are 90kg in the snatch, 125kg in the reps, and 160kg in the squats - so the question is how deep to do the squat - I think my execution is deep enough.
Training Room
Having your own weight room is worth an extreme amount. In these special times even a bit more. You also have your peace and quiet otherwise. We have a cool group here with other skiers or Gabriel who watches and motivates as a Kondi coach. This simplifies the one or other unit.
Cooperation with cross equip

I really appreciate the cooperation with cross equip. It is super material! I have been to many other places. Although the weight room is not my main area, I still spend many hours in it.
I also like the Swiss Line at cross equip. It is becoming more and more important nowadays that this "Swissness" is represented as a company and the products are produced in Switzerland. So you know what's behind it. The quality is great and it has everything I need as a skier.
We do a lot of free weight training with barbells and dumbbells, and the quality has to be right. This quality is great with cross equip.
Skiing vs. Strength training
Of course, it makes a difference in the mental area whether I ski a race or want to implement a repetition. Nevertheless, there are many parallels. One prepares well, warms up and also imagines it or even visualizes it 1-2 times, which is what I always do at the ski races.
Ziele
IIn life it is extremely important to have goals. These are very clear for me. To reach these goals, you also have to go ways that are not always so fun and easy.
You also have to see that I've been at it for so many years. I'm not a professional weightlifter - you can see that in my technique. Nevertheless, you can see the steps from year to year and I think that's nice.
