Ski Erg

Ski ergometers from cross equip give you professional quality for endurance training at home and in the studio. Meet the Concept2 SkiErg – the most widely used ski ergometer in CrossFit boxes, athletic training rooms and physiotherapy practices worldwide. Precise watt-based measurement, air resistance that scales automatically and the proven PM5 monitor convince beginners and competitive athletes alike.

Ski ergometer: full-body training with air resistance

Training on a ski ergometer works your upper body, core and legs in one flowing movement. Unlike classic cardio machines, the SkiErg activates the whole muscle chain – from your shoulders down to your calves. The distinct feel comes from the air resistance of the flywheel, which adjusts automatically to your intensity: the harder you pull, the higher the resistance. Measurable, scalable, honest. With the PM5 monitor this machine keeps all the key figures in view – ideal for structured interval work, building your fitness or preparing for competition.

Which setup fits your training?

The choice between wall mount and FloorStand depends on your situation. The Concept2 SkiErg without the FloorStand is ideal if you have a wall to use and want to save space – quickly mounted, ready to go. The FloorStand makes the machine mobile and easy to reposition, which suits home gyms without a fixed wall installation. Both versions use the same mechanism and the same PM5 monitor – the only difference is how they stand. Our team in Pfäffikon ZH is happy to advise which version fits your setup.

Frequently asked questions about ski ergometers

What does the ski ergometer train?

The SkiErg trains upper body, core and legs at the same time. The pulling movement activates lats, triceps, abdominal and back muscles as well as the legs when you use your hips. It improves endurance, coordination and explosive strength – all in a single machine.

Wall mount or FloorStand – which is better?

Both options use the same SkiErg mechanism. The wall mount saves space and is anchored more firmly. The FloorStand makes the machine free-standing and easy to position. If you rearrange your training room regularly or have no suitable wall, the FloorStand is the better choice.

Is the ski ergometer suitable for competition preparation?

Yes. In competition formats such as Hyrox the ski ergometer is one of the stations, usually over 1000 metres. On the Concept2 SkiErg you train the same movement and track your pace with the PM5 monitor.

Who is the ski ergometer suitable for?

The automatically scaling air resistance makes the SkiErg suitable for beginners and high-performance athletes alike. If you are easing back in after an injury, start at a low pace. Competitive athletes use it for maximum-intensity sessions.

What does the PM5 monitor show on the Concept2 SkiErg?

The PM5 monitor shows watts, pace (500 m split), calorie burn, heart rate (with a chest strap) and training time. It stores your sessions, connects to fitness apps via Bluetooth and ANT+, and supports all common training formats including interval programmes.

How much space does a SkiErg need?

Little floor, but height. Wall-mounted it takes a narrow area; with the FloorStand you also need the footprint of the stand. Plan enough room in front of the machine for the pulling movement.

What does a SkiErg cost?

The Concept2 SkiErg without the FloorStand is CHF 1'040, with the FloorStand CHF 1'310. The FloorStand is also available separately if you want to move away from the wall later.

How loud is a ski ergometer?

Quieter than an air bike and roughly on a par with a rowing machine – the sound comes from the flywheel. Wall-mounted, some vibration transfers into the wall; a decoupled mount removes that.
