cardio equipment

In functional training, three movements cover almost everything: pulling, pushing, running. You do not need a wall of machines – three cardio machines are enough if they work together.

You will find all of them here: rowing machines and ski ergometers from Concept2, air bikes and non-motorised treadmills. Robust, low-maintenance and built for daily use.

Which of them belongs in your space depends on your training – not on the catalogue. If you are unsure, ask us.

Three machines, three jobs

Cardio in functional training is not steady-state work on a treadmill. It is about pulling, pushing and repeatability – loads you combine with strength work. That is why the same machines show up in nearly all of our projects.

If you can fit a rowing machine, a ski ergometer and an air bike, you cover pulling, pushing and legs. If you have to pick one, take the rower – it puts the most muscle to work at once.

What each machine does

The rowing machine (from CHF 1'195) has the broadest load: legs, core, back, arms. The all-rounder if only one machine fits.

The SkiErg (CHF 1'310 including the FloorStand) pulls from above and trains lats, core and triceps. It needs little floor space but height – wall-mounted or on the stand.

The AssaultBike (from CHF 1'399) works arms and legs against air resistance that gets harder with every watt. The machine for short, hard intervals – and the loudest of the three.

If you are training towards a competition

In competition formats such as Hyrox, rowing and the ski ergometer are part of the programme, with running between the stations. If you train for that at home, work on the same type of machine as in competition – air resistance pulls differently from water or magnets, and you notice that on race day.

The AssaultRunner (from CHF 3'999) is a treadmill without a motor: you drive the curved belt yourself. That is closer to running in competition than any motorised belt, and it is the reason it stands in serious training rooms.

Either way: the training goal comes first, the equipment list second. If you are unsure what belongs in your space, ask us. We have done this a few hundred times.

Frequently asked questions about cardio equipment

Which cardio machine suits a home gym?

If only one fits: the rowing machine. It puts the most muscle to work and is easy on the joints. The SkiErg is the most space-saving addition because it goes on the wall.

How much space do these machines need?

The rowing machine needs the most length, the air bike a compact footprint, the ski ergometer the least floor – but height. Exact dimensions are on each product page. Everywhere, add room to get on and off.

Do I need a special floor underneath?

None of these machines will wreck your floor. But all of them transmit vibration into the structure – in an apartment building a decoupling rubber mat is almost always the right call.

Which machine is quietest?

The SkiErg, then the rowing machine. The air bike is by far the loudest – that comes with air resistance and cannot be engineered away.

Is an air bike worth having alongside a rower?

If you do intervals, yes – the air bike takes you to your limit in less time and barely loads the lower back. For steady aerobic work the rower is enough.

What does a cardio corner for a home gym cost?

A rowing machine, a SkiErg and an AssaultBike together come to roughly CHF 3'900. You do not have to buy everything at once – start with the rower and build up modularly as your space and training allow.

How many cardio machines does a home gym need?

One, if it is the right one. Two if you want variety. Three only once several people train at the same time – otherwise one of them just stands there taking up space.

Can I put cardio machines in a cellar or garage?

Yes. Machines without electronics barely mind the cold, and humidity only becomes an issue in permanently damp rooms. Watch the ceiling height instead – on a ski ergometer or a treadmill you stand considerably higher than floor level.
