Description

Pedal the way it should feel – with freewheel

The Concept2 BikeErg is an air bike that feels like a regular bicycle – freewheel included. When you stop pedaling, the flywheel keeps spinning, you're not force-driven like on most other ergometers. The air resistance comes from the flywheel, the same one used in the Concept2 RowErg and SkiErg. Pedal harder, it gets harder. The damper on the side works like a gear shifter: closed for lighter resistance, open for heavier load. For HYROX cycle segments, Tabata intervals, longer aerobic sessions or simply as conditioning alongside your strength work – the BikeErg covers it all. Seat distance from pedal to saddle 79–103 cm, fitting most body heights.

Vermont DNA, PM5 monitor, globally comparable

Concept2 has been building ergometers in Vermont for over 40 years. The BikeErg uses the same tech as the rower: air resistance, simple mechanics, low wear, decades of available spare parts. The PM5 monitor delivers watts, speed, distance and calories live, syncing via Bluetooth Smart and ANT+ with ErgData, Zwift and the rest. Watt values are globally standardized – your 250 W in Zurich are the same 250 W in Boston. That turns the BikeErg into a tool for structured training with target values, not just keeping your legs warm. At 31 kg, it's stable without bolting down.

Concept2 BikeErg vs. average indoor bike

Criteria Concept2 BikeErg Average indoor bike
Resistance Air resistance, reacts to you Magnetic or friction brake, fixed levels
Freewheel Yes (like a road bike) Usually fixed-gear (spinning)
Monitor PM5 with Bluetooth + ANT+, watt-accurate Basic display, often no watt readout
Data comparability Globally standardized Device-specific only
Build Steel, simple mechanics, durable Often plastic components
Spare parts Available for decades Often unavailable 2–5 years after model change
Machine weight 31 kg, stable without bolting down Variable
Use cases HYROX, Box, home gym, rehab Mostly spinning, hobby use

If your goal is structured training with watt values – HYROX prep, intervals by power zones, longer aerobic blocks – there's no way around the BikeErg. Spinning bikes can't do any of that.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Concept2 BikeErg differ from a spinning bike?
Main difference: freewheel and air resistance. On the BikeErg, you stop pedaling, the flywheel keeps spinning – just like a road bike. Spinning bikes use fixed-gear drive (you get spun along). Plus the PM5 monitor with watt readout, which spinning bikes rarely have.
How loud is the BikeErg?
The flywheel makes a steady whoosh under load. Not quieter than a good magnetic bike, but not loud either. In a Box, it disappears into the noise. In a home gym, it's roughly the volume of a hair dryer at high load.
Does the BikeErg need power?
Only the PM5 monitor runs on 2× D batteries. The BikeErg itself needs no electricity – no cable, no outlet.
Which apps work with the PM5?
ErgData (free from Concept2), Zwift, Kinomap, and most heart-rate apps. Connection runs via Bluetooth Smart or ANT+. Data saves automatically.
How do I adjust the seat and handlebars?
Both seat and handlebars adjust in height; the seat also adjusts horizontally. Adjustment runs via quick-release levers, no tools needed. Pedal-to-saddle distance between 79 and 103 cm – fits most adult heights.
Is the BikeErg easy to move?
At 31 kg machine weight, yes – transport wheels at the front, just tip and roll. You can move it to the corner after training without help.
What's included in the box?
1× Concept2 BikeErg, the PM5 monitor, the required tools for assembly and the illustrated assembly manual. The D batteries for the monitor are not included.

Customer reviews

The BikeErg was one of the first Concept2 pieces we added alongside the RowErg in our Box. What athletes immediately appreciated: same PM5 logic as on the rower, same watt values, same comparability. If you already train with Concept2, you're up and running in seconds. The freewheel makes all the difference in HYROX cycles – no fighting against the chain, just real bike feel. Maintenance is basically zero. If you're looking for an ergometer that lasts decades and speaks the same training-data language as the rest of your cardio kit: BikeErg.
