Description

The air bike where the intensity comes from you

There is no resistance dial on the Assault Air Bike. The fan is the resistance – and it works exactly as hard as you do. Ride easy and it stays easy. Go all out and all of it comes straight back at you. Your own output is the setting.

You drive the bike by pulling, pushing and pedalling at the same time. Arms and legs work together and your heart rate is up within seconds. That is why almost every CrossFit box has an Assault Bike standing somewhere: warm-up, interval tool, finisher after training.

Honestly, comfortable it is not

You do not watch a series on this thing. The resistance comes from the air you are moving, so you hear it – the faster you go, the louder it gets. And the last thirty seconds of a hard interval feel exactly the way they feel.

That is not a flaw we are going to talk around. It is the reason athletes seek it out. If what you want is a quiet bike to sit on in front of the TV, tell us – then something else is the better call.

Built to run every day

The frame is heavy-duty steel, powder-coated. Every moving part runs on industrial bearings – that is the difference between a machine that lasts a season and one that keeps going through years of box traffic. Assembled it measures 129.4 × 59.3 × 123 cm and weighs 44.5 kg. It sits solid, even when you are sprinting flat out.

The console is a high-resolution LCD display with several functions and programs. You pick intensity, distance or the power you are aiming for – and get motivational messages along the way. That covers steady heart-rate work just as well as short, hard intervals. The bike adjusts to fit, so every athlete sits square on it.

Air bike vs. rower vs. indoor cycle

Criterion Assault Air Bike Rower Indoor cycle
Muscles involved Full body – arms and legs at once Full body – legs, core, back Mainly legs
Resistance Air, scales with your own output Depends on the machine, damper selectable Level set on the machine
Ceiling on intensity Open – your own output is the limit High Capped by the level
Technique barrier Low – sit down and go Higher – a clean stroke is needed Low
For HIIT Ideal Good Limited
Typical use Warm-up, intervals, finisher Distance and technique work Steady endurance
Footprint assembled 129.4 × 59.3 cm Considerably longer Similar
Noise Audible rush of air Moderate Quiet

If you want a high heart rate fast with arms and legs both working, the air bike is the most direct route – and there is no technique to learn first. A rower complements it well but demands a clean stroke. An indoor cycle covers mainly the legs. If you need Bluetooth, a wind guard and HIIT programs on the console, look at the AssaultBike Elite.

Frequently Asked Questions

How loud is the air bike?
An airbike is never quiet – that is the principle at work. The resistance is made by the fan, so every revolution moves air. The faster you go, the more you hear it. In a box the noise is simply part of it. In a home gym in a flat with thin walls, plan for it.
How much space do I need around it?
The bike itself takes up 129.4 × 59.3 cm of floor at 123 cm high. Add room to move around that: space at the side to get on and off, and enough open air for the fan to breathe. This is not a machine for a tight alcove.
Is the Assault Bike suitable for beginners?
Yes. The resistance comes from your own output – there is no level that could be set too hard. You start at your pace and get faster when you are ready.
Does the bike fit different body sizes?
The seat post has a numbered scale with ten positions, and the seat slides forward and back on a rail. Both adjust with a knob, no tools needed. If several people train on it, everyone just remembers their number.
What is the difference to the AssaultBike Pro?
Assault describes the AssaultBike Pro as the new generation of the AssaultBike. The manufacturer does not give more detail than that. Which one makes sense for your setup is something we are happy to go through with you – drop us a line.
What can the AssaultBike Elite do that this bike cannot?
The AssaultBike Elite has an exceptionally comfortable large seat for longer rides and a wind guard that can be fitted and taken off again. Its console connects via Bluetooth and ANT – for heart rate monitoring and data tracking on a mobile device. On top of that it carries HIIT interval programs alongside the classic time, distance and calorie goals.

Customer reviews

When somebody says after training that they are adding one more finisher, I point at the air bike. No other piece of cardio kit gets you to where it hurts that fast – and there is nothing to set up first. That is exactly why athletes love it and dread it at the same time. If you want a machine that genuinely asks something of you, this is it.
