Description

Alternating black and white – you see the rope mid-jump

Beaded rope, beaded jump rope, rope skipping rope – it always means the same principle: individual plastic segments strung on a nylon cord. On this rope the segments are black and white in alternation. That is the only version.

The reason isn't looks, it's practical. A fast spinning rope turns into a blur for your eye – with a single-colour rope you see nothing at all. The clear black-and-white pattern stays visible even while the rope is running. When you're learning, that's worth gold: you see where the rope is instead of guessing.

Why a beaded rope is the better starting point for learning

The segments make the rope heavier than a thin wire cable. And heavier here means: you feel it. You notice mid-jump where the rope is instead of estimating. For crossovers, side swings, freestyle combinations and your first clean double unders, that's the decisive difference – you learn timing through feedback, not through speed.

Then there's the sound. The segments hit the floor audibly and set your rhythm. Many people find their rhythm through the ear faster than through feel. That's exactly why the beaded rope is the classic in rope skipping, in freestyle and in school and club sports.

Tough on rough ground – and sized to you in seconds

With a coated wire rope, the coating wears down noticeably faster on asphalt and concrete. The plastic segments here take rough ground far better – that's what they're built for. Jumping outside, in the yard, on the parking lot in front of the box: no problem.

You set the length with knots and cord stoppers on the cord right at the handle. No tools, no screw, nothing to cut off – and reversible at any time. Handy when several people share one rope or you work with changing groups at a club. Maximum rope length is 3 m, so you cover tall athletes too.

The rope has no ball bearing – the cord runs directly in the handle. With this type of rope, feedback counts, not top speed. If you're after speed, you're better off with a wire rope with bearings.

Frequently Asked Questions

What colour is the rope?
Black and white in alternation, with black handles. There is no other version. The clear pattern stays visible mid-jump – that helps you spot where the rope is while it's running.
Who is a beaded rope the right choice for?
For everyone learning to jump rope or expanding their repertoire: beginners, rope skipping and freestyle jumpers, coaches in school and club sports. And for everyone jumping outdoors who needs a rope that takes rough ground.
Can I do double unders with it – and does the rope have a ball bearing?
Double unders work. The rope has no ball bearing, the nylon cord runs directly in the handle. That makes it slower than a wire rope with bearings – an advantage while learning, because you feel and hear where the rope is. Once the doubles are dialed in and it's about time in the WOD, you switch to the Deluxe Jump Rope or the VRT Elite Speed Rope.
How do I adjust the length?
With knots and cord stoppers on the nylon cord right at the handle. No tools, no screw, nothing to cut off. Stand with one foot on the middle of the rope – with a beads rope it can be a bit longer than with a speed rope: armpit height here instead of the chest height we recommend for the Deluxe. Because nothing gets shortened, you reset it for the next person in seconds – handy in clubs, schools and group training.
How loud is the rope?
Clearly louder than a wire rope – the segments hit the floor audibly. In training that's exactly what keeps your rhythm, and in the box or outdoors it bothers nobody. In a flat with neighbours below you, though, factor it in: a wire rope is the quieter choice there.
Does the rope hold up on asphalt or concrete?
Yes, that's what the build is made for. The plastic segments take rough ground far better than a thin coated cable. Still: every rope lasts longer on a smooth floor.

Customer reviews

When somebody here wants to learn crossovers or double unders, I put a beads rope in their hands first. Not because it's better than a speed rope – but because you feel and hear the rope. You notice right away whether your timing is right. With a thin cable you only notice that it didn't work again.
