Cooling where there is no socket
The Hardshell Coolbox is a passive cooler: no cable, no compressor, no vehicle power. The cooling comes from the insulation and from whatever you put inside – ice, frozen bottles or ice packs. That's exactly why it works the same everywhere: in the car park on comp day, at training camp, down at the lake or out on the boat.
The manufacturer rates the box at up to 72 hours of cold. That's the best case under ideal conditions – well filled, in the shade, lid kept shut. In practice, three things decide how long it really stays cold: outside temperature, how much ice is in there and how often the lid goes up. Pre-chilled and loaded with a decent amount of ice, you'll get through a long tournament day without trouble – and usually through the night after it too.
Four sizes – which one fits you
The 35 l is the box for a day out for two: drinks and whatever you need for the session outside. At 10 kg empty you can still carry it comfortably on your own. The 45 l is the step up when a barbecue evening or a small group joins in.
The 65 l fits when you're out with a team – comp day with the club, a weekend on the campsite. And the 120 l is the one for multi-day events and big groups: it holds the most, weighs 23 kg empty and therefore rolls on two chunky-tread wheels over gravel and grass. On top of that comes a telescopic pull handle in metal with a rubberised cross grip – you tow the full box behind you like a suitcase instead of carrying it. The honest advice: take the size you'd actually fill on a normal day. A half-empty box cools worse than a full one – and you still have to lug it around.
Built for the outdoors
The outer shell is made from high-density, impact-resistant polyethylene – it doesn't mind knocks, scratches or weather. The lid runs on a hinge and gets pulled firmly onto the all-round seal by two black rubber T-latches on the front. That seal keeps warm air out and makes the box watertight – in the boot, the meltwater stays where it belongs.
You carry it by rope handles made from braided cord with a rubberised grip, fixed to eyelets on the sides. There's also a recessed grip in the front for when you want to lift it on your own. Set into the lid are a ruler and two round recesses as cup holders – the ruler for quick measuring, the recesses for everything that otherwise tips over.

| Run time without a socket | Long, as long as there's ice inside | Ends with the power | Short |
| Toughness | Hardshell, impact- and weatherproof | Plastic housing with electronics inside | Soft material, easily damaged |
| Noise | None | Fan or compressor audible | None |

If you're out where there's no socket and no vehicle power – comp day, training camp, camping – the passive hardshell is the right call. If you're parked next to a power point anyway, an electric model serves you better: it actively chills the contents instead of just keeping them cold. For a couple of hours of shopping, a cooler bag does the job.

Customer reviews
The big one goes in the car whenever we head to a competition. Drinks in, ice on top, lid shut – and in the evening when we pack down, everything's still cold. No cable, no humming, nothing that can fail. That's exactly why I like the thing.
