Description

The rest every set begins on

J-Hooks – known in the scene as J cups – are the point where every lift starts and ends. You rack out, you rack in, a hundred times a day in daily training use. Sitting in the cradle is a plastic rest: your barbell lands on plastic instead of bare steel. The knurling stays intact, and racking the bar sounds a lot less like a workshop.

Height comes from the row of holes in the upright, in a 5 cm pattern – low for squats, higher for bench and overhead press. Slot the hook in, the horizontal pin at the top secures it, carry on. That is something you do between two sets, without hunting for tools first.

How the hook sits on the upright

The back plate rests flat against the post across 220 mm – the load goes into the profile over that whole surface, not through the pin. The horizontal pin at the top holds the hook in the hole and does nothing more than stop it lifting out when you unrack.

They are built for our A-Line: 75 x 75 mm profile, 17 mm holes, 5 cm spacing – Squat Stands, Power Racks and Rigs from the series. They do not go on the Swiss Line upright with its 80 x 80 mm – for that you need the Swiss Line J-Hooks. Black powder-coated steel, and every variant ships as two pieces.

The same A-Line profile also takes the HG J-Hooks – a separate product from the High Grade line, not a third variant on this page.

Which rest suits your station?

Criterion J-Hooks Standard HG J-Hooks Roller J-Hooks
Rest plastic, dropped in plastic core between two steel plates cradle with built-in rollers
How it sits on the upright back plate, flat across 220 mm securing plate, wraps around the post spring-loaded pin
Lining up a loaded bar lift and set down again lift and set down again roll sideways, no lifting
Made for the classic rest on any station the High Grade line build stations where the bar often lands off-centre

For most stations these J-Hooks are the right call: plastic rest, flat back plate, moved without tools. The HG J-Hooks are the High Grade line build. If your loaded bar often ends up off-centre, take the Roller J-Hooks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Professional build in the variant menu?
A second build of the same part: instead of the flat back plate a bracket wraps around the post, and the plastic rest is bolted on rather than dropped in. It sits on the same profile and is moved the same way.
Will the J-Hooks fit my rack?
Anything from the A-Line: Squat Stands, Racks and Rigs. The profile there measures 75 x 75 mm, the holes 17 mm, the spacing 5 cm. If your rack comes from another manufacturer, we need two figures – profile width and hole diameter. Send them over and we will tell you whether it fits. If you have a Swiss Line with an 80 x 80 mm upright, the way to go is the Swiss Line J-Hooks.
How much weight do the J-Hooks take?
700 kg per pair, so 350 kg per hook.
How is the hook secured on the upright?
By a horizontal locking pin. It holds the hook in the hole and stops it lifting out when you unrack. It does not carry the actual load – that goes straight into the profile through the bearing surface.
Will the hook scratch my barbell?
No, that is what the plastic rest is there for. Your bar never touches bare steel when you rack in and out, so neither the finish nor the knurling suffers.
Do I get a pair or a single piece?
Two pieces always go out, one per upright. That applies to both variants – we do not sell them singly.
What is the difference to the Roller J-Hooks?
The cradle. The Roller J-Hooks have rollers in there, so you can slide a loaded barbell sideways into position without lifting it. These J-Hooks have a fixed plastic rest – the classic solution, and exactly right for the vast majority of stations. Both sit in the same profile, so you can switch any time.
And what about the HG J-Hooks?
The HG J-Hooks are a separate product from the High Grade line, not a third variant on this page. They sit on the same A-Line profile but are built differently: two steel side plates with a plastic core between them instead of a dropped-in rest, plus a securing plate carrying the cross equip "C" that wraps around the back of the post.

Customer reviews

J-Hooks are the part you touch on every single lift. Most stations in our box run them and they have done their job for years without any drama. What you actually notice day to day is the plastic rest – our bars still look decent after all this time.
