Description

Knees Over Toes – the ATG tool for resilient knees

The Slant Board is the training wedge for focused knee-over-toe work in the ATG style (Ass To Grass), made famous by Ben Patrick aka the Knees Over Toes Guy. The 22° angle lets your knees travel controlled past the toes – exactly where the VMO (vastus medialis obliquus) is activated most. Whether it's sissy squats, ATG split squats, goblet squats on the board, Jefferson curls or controlled calf stretching – you train in an angle that builds long-term knee resilience instead of avoiding load. The wedge has also earned its place in rehab: for anyone rebuilding after knee surgery or working through patellar tendon issues, focusing on capacity instead of avoidance.

Solid wood, non-slip, three kilos light

The construction is deliberately simple: solid wood, a stable base, a non-slip coating on the standing surface, and a slightly angled rear edge so you don't tip backwards when stepping on. 50 cm of standing width gives you room for wide squat stances. At 3 kg, you take the board to a training camp, to the office, into a hotel room – wherever you need knee work. The non-slip surface holds under load too – with a kettlebell or in a goblet hold. Maintenance: none. Wood, that's it.

Slant Board vs. plates under the heels vs. adjustable stretch board

Criteria Slant Board (fixed 22°) Weight plates as raise Adjustable stretch board
Angle 22° fixed, defined Height variable, no angle Multiple angles
Standing surface 50 cm wide, fully angled Small contact points Variable
Stability Very high (solid wood) Wobbly Medium-high
ATG suitability Yes, primary use Only a workaround Yes, but more setup
Rehab fit High (defined angle) Low High
Transport 3 kg, compact Bulky Heavier, foldable
Price range Low–medium "Already on hand" Higher

If you train ATG or knee-over-toe regularly and want a defined angle, the Slant Board is the right pick. Plates under the heels work for a basic squat, but not for clean sissy squats or controlled calf stretching. Adjustable boards are more expensive and over-engineered for most athletes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which exercises does the Slant Board suit?
Classics are sissy squats, ATG split squats, goblet squats on the board, lunges, Jefferson curls and controlled calf stretching. Also ideal for general mobility and rehab work focused on knees and ankles. Anything that calls for a defined knee-over-toe angle.
What is ATG and Knees Over Toes training?
ATG stands for "Ass To Grass" and refers to the training style popularized by Ben Patrick (Knees Over Toes Guy). Core idea: instead of protecting the knee by keeping it behind the toes, you train that exact motion in a controlled way to build VMO, patellar tendon and ankle resilience. The Slant Board is the central tool for that.
Is the board stable enough for loaded squats?
Yes. Solid wood and non-slip surface handle kettlebell or goblet squats without issue. The board doesn't wobble, the footing is secure. For maximal barbell back squats we still recommend a regular flat stance – the board's primary purpose is knee isolation and mobility work.
Can I take the Slant Board with me?
Yes. 3 kg, compact dimensions, robust – fits into a car trunk, next to a desk or into a larger gym bag. Many customers use it at the office as a stretch break or in hotel rooms while traveling.
Do I need the board, or are heel plates enough?
A plate under the heels works for plain squats. For sissy squats, controlled knee-over-toe movements or calf stretching, the Slant Board's defined 22° gives you more stability and cleaner mechanics. For regular ATG training, the right tool pays off.
Is the board suitable for rehab?
Yes, the Slant Board is used in many physio practices – especially after knee surgery, meniscus repair or in patellar tendon issues. The controlled, defined load supports the step-by-step rebuild of knee capacity.
How do I care for the Slant Board?
Practically no maintenance. Wood – occasionally wipe with a damp cloth, that's it. Don't leave outdoors and don't store wet.

Customer reviews

Knee training was a taboo for a long time – never let the knee travel past the toes, keep the shin vertical. The Slant Board shows that the opposite is exactly the key: controlled knee-over-toe, activate the VMO, build patellar tendon resilience. I use the board myself regularly in warm-ups and mobility routines. My knees have never been as resilient as today, and the Slant Board played a big part.
