Description

Why the bend makes the difference

Curl a straight barbell and your palms point fully upwards. Your forearms hold that position through every single rep – and sooner or later you feel it in the wrist. The EZ bend rotates your hands in between, into a half-neutral position: less pull on the wrist and the elbow, and a grip that simply feels more natural. That's exactly why most people reach for the curl bar instead of a straight barbell for biceps curls, skull crushers and French press – and for upright rows anyway.

Ten kilos, Olympic sleeves, nothing new to get used to

The curl bar weighs 10 kg – half an Olympic barbell, and a lot more compact. For arm work that's an advantage: you start lower and you step up in finer increments. The grip area measures 28 mm – the same diameter as on our Multisports Bar, so there's nothing new to get used to. The sleeves are 50 mm, which means every plate with an Olympic bore goes straight on. What people write in the reviews below this text matches our own impression: it sits well in the hand, and the finish is right.

Typical exercises Curls, French press, upright rows Squats, cleans, deadlifts, WODs
Use case Targeted arm work Full body, all the big lifts

The curl bar doesn't replace your barbell, it hangs next to it. If you squat, clean and deadlift, the Multisports Bar is your base. Once arm work comes in and curls or French press start pressing on your wrists, you reach for the curl bar. Most home gyms end up with both.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I use a curl bar for?
Classic biceps curls, close grip and wide grip. Plus triceps work like skull crushers and French press, standing or seated, and upright rows on top.
What does the EZ bend give me over a straight barbell?
Your hands sit half-neutral instead of fully turned up. That puts wrist and elbow in a more natural position – and for a lot of people that's exactly what makes curls and French press comfortable.
Will my plates fit?
Yes, as long as they have a 50 mm Olympic bore. Bumper plates, cast iron or urethane – anything you also slide onto your barbell.
How much does the curl bar weigh?
10 kg. That's half a 20 kg barbell, and for arm work it's a real advantage: you can work cleanly even with very little added weight.
How much can I load onto it?
Arm and triceps work sits in a range where that's a non-issue – the loads that end up on a curl bar are nothing for steel to worry about.
Do I need collars for it?
Yes, use them. On curls the bar tips slightly with every rep, and without collars the plates travel outwards. One pair of quick-release collars is enough.

Customer reviews

I'm not a bodybuilder, and there's still a curl bar hanging on our wall. The reason is simple: after a few years of heavy pulling and pressing your wrists start speaking up, and with the bend the grip is just more relaxed. For arm work at the end of a session I pick it up every time.
