Stiff leather that barely works under load
9.5 mm of rough-out leather and roughly 1200 g – this is not a belt you casually strap on. Under load, almost nothing moves out of the way. The pressure you build inside your belly comes back at you almost in full, because the material yields nowhere. That is exactly why people buy it when they are training towards the one heavy attempt.
The flip side comes with it. New leather at this thickness works against you at first. It stands where you want it to bend, and it takes a few weeks under the bar before it wraps around your hips. Walking around in it between sets is no fun – it comes off the moment the barbell is back on the floor. And if your session runs through eight exercises, you are better served by something that opens with one pull.
One more point, precisely because this belt is built so uncompromisingly: it will not turn a weak midsection into a strong one. If you are not lifting heavy yet, you simply do not need it – and anyone who is lifting heavy already has the trunk work in the programme.
Straight cut: as much counter-pressure at the front as at the back
10 cm across the entire circumference, the same width at the front as across your back. When you brace, you breathe forward into your belly, and that is where the surface has to push back. A contoured belt narrows towards the front and shifts part of that job into your back.
That is a trade, not a shortcoming. The contoured Leder Weightlifting Belt leaves you more room at the front when you sink deep into your hips – if you carry a lot of forward lean on deadlifts or cleans, you will prefer it. If you run squats and deadlifts heavy and upright, you want the straight version.
Rough-out leather, stainless steel and white stitching
Both sides are rough-out/suede leather – hence the matt suede look. In practice that mainly means one thing: the leather grips on your clothing instead of sliding across it. The belt stays where you put it, even as you stand up under the barbell. Add white contrast stitching and an embroidered logo, with Red and Black to choose from.
Holding it all together is a single-prong roller buckle in stainless steel. One prong, one row of holes, the loose end disappears into the keeper. No second prong wanting its own hole – with leather like this, every handling step you save counts.
On the subject of competition, because the question comes up here more than anywhere: the IPF specifies a maximum of 10 cm width and 13 mm thickness, the IWF a maximum of 12 cm width. At 10 cm and 9.5 mm, the belt sits within both frameworks. With the IPF, though, something else decides as well – the federation keeps a list of approved manufacturers, and cross equip is not on it. If you are starting at a federation meet, your federation's list is the source that counts, not the tape measure.
Which size fits you?
Tape measure around your belly, at navel height, stomach drawn in – that is your waist circumference. What it says on your trousers will not help you here, they sit lower down. Take that figure into the table:
| Size | Waist circumference (navel height, stomach drawn in) |
|---|---|
| XS | 55–77 cm |
| S | 59–81 cm |
| M | 72–94 cm |
| L | 80–103 cm |
| XL | 89–110 cm |
Between two sizes, take the smaller one.
The ranges overlap heavily because the row of holes covers exactly that room – so you almost always land somewhere in the middle of it. With a belt that yields this little, the smaller choice is the safe one: set too loose, it fails to deliver precisely the counter-pressure you bought it for. Not sure? Send us your measurement and we will come back with a recommendation.

Want it as stiff as it gets with the same counter-pressure all round, you are right here. Need the identical fit on every set plus a lever to open it, take the Lever Belt. For squats and deadlifts in everyday training, the lighter Leder Weightlifting Belt is plenty. For the IPF, the manufacturer list counts too – no cross equip belt is on it.

Customer reviews
We do not sell this belt often, and that is completely right – it is made for the handful of people genuinely training towards a maximum. Most people look puzzled the first time they put it on, because nothing moves. That is exactly the point. After a few weeks it sits, and then you want nothing else around your hips for the heavy attempt.
