Description

The build only runs out at 329 kg

This set brings eight red 25s with it – and that is what decides how far you can load. On a 20 kg barbell you end up with 309 kg of plates plus the bar, so 329 kg. Nothing is missing in between: every step from 0.25 kg to 25 kg comes twice, so you always load symmetrically onto both sides. This is the set for the powerlifting gym, for the strength and conditioning room – and for the basement setup where the deadlift is nowhere near finished.

What calibrated actually means here

After production every plate has fine weights fitted to the back and is set individually – powder coating included. That keeps the weight inside the IPF rule of 0.25 percent or 10 grams of the face value, so on a 20 kg plate within 50 grams. The plates are built from solid steel instead of cast iron: denser, so thinner at the same weight (the 25 kg measures 22 mm) and far less prone to breaking than cast. The colours tell you the weight – red 25, blue 20, yellow 15, green 10, white 5, black 2.5, silver for the fine plates. You grab the right one without hunting for the stamp.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is in the 309 kg set?
24 plates, 309 kg together: 2× each of 0.25, 0.5, 1.25, 2.5, 5, 10, 15 and 20 kg – plus 8× 25 kg. That lets you load every weight symmetrically onto both sides.
What does calibrated mean on weight plates?
The weight is set individually after manufacturing, instead of just being produced and ticked off. That keeps the plates inside the IPF rule of 0.25 percent or 10 grams of the face value – on a 20 kg plate that is 50 grams.
Am I allowed to drop these plates?
No, they are not built for it. Dropping punishes your floor and damages the coating. For lowering from height, bumper plates belong on the barbell.
Will the plates fit my barbell?
Yes, every Olympic barbell. The bore diameter is 50.4 mm, which sits cleanly on a 50 mm sleeve without annoying play.
Why solid steel and not cast iron?
Steel is denser. The plate gets thinner at the same weight, so you fit more onto the sleeve – with eight 25s every millimetre counts. And steel does not break as easily as cast.
Wouldn't the smaller set do for me?
Depends how heavy you go. Up to 179 kg on the bar, the 159 kg Set covers everything. Anyone regularly above that is better served by the eight 25s here.
Can I run a competition with them?
The plates are built to IPF specifications and the weight tolerances are met – they do not carry a certificate. At competitions that don't require certified equipment they are used regularly. Where a certificate is demanded, you need certified equipment.

Customer reviews

In powerlifting you don't want a discussion about the weight. When an athlete pulls 250 kg at our place, that is the same number that goes on the competition sheet. We put this set together for exactly that: set it up once and never wonder again whether the number in the training log is right.
