Description

Trap bar deadlift – lift heavy, protect your back

The trap bar (also known as a hex bar or hexagon barbell) is one of the smartest additions to any box or gym. You stand inside the hex frame, with the weight at your sides – not in front of your spine like with a straight barbell. The center of gravity shifts right into your body. The result: your spine, muscles, and joints are loaded more evenly. The neutral grip – palms facing each other – keeps your wrists and shoulders in a natural position. No rotation, no unnecessary stress on your joints. For beginners learning a clean deadlift. For experienced athletes looking for new stimulus. And for anyone coming back from injury – in strength sports, physio, or training.

Hex bar with two grip heights

What makes this trap bar stand out: you get two grip heights. The raised handles shorten the range of motion – you don't have to go as deep. That helps beginners with technique and takes pressure off the back at heavy weights. Flip the bar over, and you grip lower – closer to the classic deadlift feel. Two variations, one bar. Add to that a grippy knurling that holds even on heavy lifts, and a load capacity of 320 kg. Whether it's deadlifts, shrugs, farmers walks, squats, or bent-over rows – the trap bar handles it all. You can even bench press with a neutral grip, which is easier on the shoulders.

Both trap bars offer centered loading, neutral grip, and two grip heights. The standard trap bar is more compact and lighter – ideal for boxes and home gyms with limited space. The Heavy Duty Open Trap Bar is heavier, handles more load, and the open design gives you more leg clearance. For gyms focused on strongman or heavy deadlifts, the Heavy Duty is the better pick.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is the trap bar for?
A wide range of athletes: strength athletes, CrossFitters, beginners learning the deadlift safely, and anyone in rehab or physio. The centered load and neutral grip make it especially back-friendly – something physios and experienced lifters both appreciate.
What do the two grip heights do?
The raised handles shorten the range of motion. You don't have to go as deep, which protects the back and makes it easier for beginners to get started. The lower handles bring you closer to the classic deadlift feel with full range of motion. Just flip the bar – done.
Does the trap bar replace my barbell?
No. The trap bar is a complement, not a replacement. For Olympic lifts, back squats, or classic bench press, you still need a barbell.
Do my bumper plates fit?
Yes. The sleeves are 50 mm – Olympic standard. All common bumper plates and weight plates fit.
What else can I do besides deadlifts?
Plenty: shrugs, farmers walks, squats, bent-over rows. Even neutral grip bench press – which is easier on the shoulders. In strongman training and CrossFit boxes, it's a staple.
How heavy is the trap bar itself?
20 kg – same as an Olympic barbell. So the math stays the same when calculating your working weight.

Customer reviews

The trap bar sits right next to our barbells in the box – and it gets used every single day. I grab it regularly myself, especially when my back needs a break after intense weeks. What convinced me: the two grip heights. Beginners start raised, advanced athletes go lower. And for physio clients, it makes the difference – centered load, neutral grip, way less stress on the spine. No barbell can do that. Not a replacement, but an addition we wouldn't want to be without.
