Pull it on once, keep it on to the last set

Warm-up, back squats, then a metcon with wall balls and box jumps – and the sleeve stays exactly where it belongs the whole way through. That is what the 5 mm thickness is there for. It wraps the joint tightly enough that you feel the compression and the knee stays warm, without locking you up in the bend. You do not have to roll it down after the heavy block just to be able to jump again.

The difference to 7 mm sits precisely here: 7 mm gives you more to push against on heavy sets, but it makes itself felt once the reps add up. 5 mm is the thickness for sessions that have a bit of everything – some strength, some time under tension, a bit of speed at the end. If both stand in your week and you only want to own one sleeve, 5 mm usually makes for the easier ride.

Rehband Rx – one item, one sleeve

The Rx is made from a flexible neoprene material that Rehband cuts into two panels and stitches together at the sides. That way the sleeve brings the curve of the knee with it straight out of the cut and does not bunch up in the bend. The same sleeve fits both knees – there is no left and no right model.

When you order, take a second look at the quantity. One item equals one sleeve – that is how Rehband sells the Rx, it is not something missing from the parcel. If both knees are to be covered, two go into the basket, and you are free to pick a different size per side. If one side is enough for you, you only pay for that one.

A short word on the competition question, because it gets answered wrong in this category all the time. Nothing fails on the measurement here: the IPF upper limit sits at 7 mm, and this sleeve stays under it at 5 mm. Only the measurement is not all of it – the IPF permits brands from its tested manufacturer list only, and Rehband is not on that list. So the Rx is no use for an IPF start, however thin it may be. Weightlifting is a different case: the IWF checks no brands at all, there it only counts that nothing hard is built into the sleeve – no buckle, no strap, no reinforcement. And in CrossFit there is simply nothing to clear up, because nobody keeps an equipment list there.

Which size fits you?

On the Rx the circumference gets measured 10 cm below the kneecap – not on the thigh and not across the kneecap. Put the tape there, read off your value, then find your row:

We carry the Rx in black from XS to XL. An XXL, the kind that still haunts older size charts, does not exist here.

The ranges butt straight up against each other – your 35 cm is the top end of S and the start of M at the same time. For exactly that case Rehband gives a recommendation of its own: if you like it tighter, take the smaller size. If you would rather have it sit with a little more give, go one up.

One more point, in case you already know our own Knee Sleeves Neopren 5mm: there the tape goes somewhere else – around the knee itself, at roughly 20 degrees of bend. So you cannot simply carry your usual letter size across, two measuring points give you two numbers. Measure once more before you order.
