Description

Competition Bumper Plates Set for competition training

The High Grade Competition Bumper Plates Set 140 kg is the direct solution for athletes training at competition level – Olympic weightlifters, ambitious CrossFitters with comp goals, or Box owners building a full competition setup. The set contains all four IWF-standard weight pairs: 2× 10 kg (green), 2× 15 kg (yellow), 2× 20 kg (blue), 2× 25 kg (red). The IWF-compliant color coding makes recognition and changes instant – in competition mode at high frequency or while coaching multiple athletes in parallel, you see immediately what's on the bar. At 140 kg total, you cover technique work to heavy PRs. Light starts pull from the set; for max attempts you load the whole set.

Steel core for more weight per plate

The core difference to standard bumper plates: competition plates have a steel core instead of a volumetric core. That means more weight at less thickness – you fit more kilos on the bar without plates overhanging the sleeve. On the 25 kg pair particularly relevant: thinner = more sleeve reserve for additional plates. The material is built for continuous use. Over 30,000 drops in load testing – simulating years of intense Box or athletic-studio use with daily drops from hip or shoulder height. 50.4 mm bore and 450 mm outer diameter match the IWF standard exactly and fit any Olympic barbell (50 mm).

Competition plates pay off if you train Olympic lifting at competition level or build a Box with competition-standard ambitions. For general CrossFit training, standard bumper plates are enough. For classic powerlifting without drops, cast iron is more compact and lower in price.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does IWF-compliant mean exactly?
The plates meet the International Weightlifting Federation specs: 50.4 mm bore, 450 mm outer diameter, exact weight tolerances (competition class) and the standardized color coding (10 kg green, 15 kg yellow, 20 kg blue, 25 kg red). Required for official IWF competitions.
Why are competition plates thinner than standard bumpers?
The steel core delivers more weight in less volume. On a 25 kg plate the difference looks small, but stacked it saves significant sleeve length – important when you go into 200 kg+ territory.
Will the plates fit my bar?
Yes, if your bar is Olympic standard (50 mm sleeves). The 50.4 mm bore fits all common Olympic barbells with minimal tolerance – intended for safe plate-spinning without binding.
What does "30,000 drops tested" mean?
In load testing, the plates were dropped over 30,000 times from hip height onto a surface. That simulates years of intense Box or athletic-studio use with daily drops. The plates show no structural issues after this test – they're built for high-level continuous use.
Can I buy single plates from the set later?
Yes. All High Grade Competition Bumper Plates are also available individually. You can extend the set (e.g. extra 25 kg pair) or replace a damaged plate.
Do I need additional equipment?
You need at least an Olympic barbell (50 mm sleeves) and collars for secure plate fit. For drops, we recommend a weightlifting platform or at minimum dropping mats – it protects floor, plates and bar long-term.
Is 140 kg enough for my training?
For most athletes yes. The set covers squats, deadlifts, cleans and snatches in typical hobby and athletic-training ranges fully. Athletes training in the 200 kg+ PR range add extra 25 kg pairs – the steel-core construction leaves room for them on the bar.

Customer reviews

Competition plates are what we use in our Box for serious Olympic lifting training. The steel core makes the difference: you fit more weight on the bar, the geometry stays correct for clean lifts, and the plates just hold up. Over 30,000 drops tested – that's not marketing, that's the standard you need when multiple athletes push the limit daily. The 140 kg set covers technique work to heavy sets entirely.
