Description

For the one heavy attempt

The Weightlifting Competition Bar 15 kg is built for the moment when everything comes down to one rep. The knurling bites hard, even when your hands are sweaty and your nerves are going. The sleeves spin more freely than on our Weightlifting Training Bar 15 kg – the plates follow the turnover more willingly, and that is exactly what you feel in a heavy attempt. This is the barbell for competition prep, for testing days and for everything you want to prove with one clean attempt.

Honest about it: for everyday training it is not the smarter call. After a few sets back to back you feel the knurling in your palms. If you put in a lot of technique work across the week, reach for the Training Bar 15 kg instead – its more restrained knurling spares your hands across the sets. And if WODs with high reps are part of your week, the Multisports Bar 15 kg is the friendlier option.

15 kg doesn't automatically mean women's bar

15 kg, a 25 mm grip and 201 cm of length are the IWF spec for women's competitions – but the bar gets picked up by anyone who finds the standard shaft too thick in the hand. Juniors, lighter athletes, smaller hands: the slimmer the shaft, the more finger you get over your thumb – and that is what the hook grip lives on in the snatch. The shorter build helps too if you are not 1.90 m tall. If you are used to the standard grip, you will find the same concept in the Weightlifting Competition Bar 20 kg with 28 mm and 220 cm.

Spring steel, chrome plated – and smooth in the centre on purpose

The shaft is chrome plated spring steel. It brings the whip that works with you on the snatch and the clean. In the middle the barbell is smooth, no knurling at all. That is not cutting corners, it is deliberate: on the clean the bar lands on your collarbone and neck, and knurling there would scrape on every front squat. You find your grip width from a single IWF mark per side. The sleeves measure 32 cm per side at 50 mm diameter – the Olympic standard that every Olympic plate fits.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where's the difference to the Training Bar 15 kg?
In the knurling and in the rotation. This bar bites more aggressively and its sleeves spin more freely – both pay off exactly where a single attempt counts. The Training Bar 15 kg is tuned for everyday training: more reps, more sets, and knurling that doesn't eat your hands. Dimensions and weight are practically identical on both.
Why is the bar smooth in the middle?
Because that is exactly where it rests in weightlifting. In the front rack the shaft sits on your collarbone and neck – knurling in that spot would rub on every clean and every front squat. Powerlifting bars carry a centre knurl so the bar doesn't slide on your back in the squat. In weightlifting you don't need it, there it only gets in the way.
Does the barbell carry an IWF certificate?
No. It is built to IWF women's dimensions: 15 kg, 201 cm, 25 mm grip, IWF mark in the right position. It doesn't carry the federation's stamp – only a handful of manufacturers worldwide do. At competitions that don't demand certified equipment you can lift with it. Where certified equipment is mandatory the organiser supplies the bars, and you have trained on the same dimensions for it.
What does aggressive knurling mean in practice?
The steel bites noticeably into your palm instead of just feeling rough. On a heavy snatch that is the difference between holding on and regripping. Across a lot of reps it turns into a load on your skin – the bar is not built for that.
Can I squat, deadlift and run WODs with it?
Technically yes, sensibly only up to a point. For front squats and overhead squats out of weightlifting it is ideal. For pure powerlifting lifts and for WODs with high reps an all-rounder like the Multisports Bar 15 kg fits better – medium knurling, IWF and IPF markings.
Which plates fit on the sleeves?
Anything with a 50 mm bore, so the Olympic standard. In weightlifting bumper plates belong on there: they take the controlled drop from overhead. Metal discs do fit on the sleeve, but they have no business in the snatch and the clean & jerk.

Customer reviews

We pull the Competition Bar out of the rack on testing days, not on a Tuesday evening. The knurling grabs so hard that nothing leaves your hand on a heavy snatch – and for that you don't want to do thirty cleans in a row on it. If you can't decide between the two 15s: count your heavy days. If there are only a few, the Training Bar is plenty.
