Description

One package instead of three orders

Rings from here, straps from there, carabiners from somewhere else again – that is usually how it starts, and in the end the carabiner does not fit through the loop. This set saves you the hunt: the wooden rings, the numbered Competition Straps and the matching carabiners all arrive together. You put the straps over your rig beam or your ceiling mount, clip the carabiners in and train.

This is exactly the setup you know from competition footage – black webbing with light numbers, wooden rings underneath. For ring rows and ring dips just as much as for working on muscle-ups and support holds.

The numbers on the webbing do the work

The webbing has numbers woven into it, plus red double marks alongside. That is the end of guessing: the number you clip into is your height – same number on the other side, and you never have to step back and compare. If somebody else has moved things in the meantime, you simply clip your old number back in.

Adjustment runs in fixed 5 cm steps. Straight with you: there are no values in between. In practice that rarely bothers anyone – for ring rows the angle of your feet decides how hard it is anyway, and for dips or muscle-ups you only want enough air under the rings. Where it counts is daily box life: the athlete after you resets in seconds instead of wrestling with a buckle.

The system is nothing new, by the way – the Competition Straps were first shown at the CrossFit Games 2011 and have been in plenty of gyms ever since. That does not come with any approval attached: what is allowed on the rig at your competition is the organiser's call.

What is in the set

In the box you get the wooden rings, the black Competition Straps with their woven-in numbers and red double marks, plus the matching carabiners. Adjustment runs through the fixed 5 cm steps, and nothing needs re-tightening afterwards.

What is not included: the point everything hangs from. On a rig the strap runs over a crossbeam or over a bracket like the Ring Hanger; without a rig you need a ceiling mount. And a rig that gets swung on belongs bolted to the floor – that is not a formality, it is the difference between a setup that stays put and one that walks.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get both sides to the same height?
Through the woven-in numbers. You remember the value you clip into and use the same one on the other side. That makes the height repeatable instead of re-estimated every time – and when you put the rings back up after the WOD, the number takes you straight back to it.
Are 5 cm steps fine enough?
For normal use, yes. On ring rows you control the difficulty through your foot position anyway, and for dips or muscle-ups you just need enough air below you. If you want a height set to the centimetre, stepless straps serve you better.
Where can I hang the rings?
If you have a rig, the strap goes over the crossbeam or over a bracket like the Ring Hanger. If you do not, the route runs via a ceiling mount – you will find the choice under gymnastic rings and mounts. What matters in both cases is a hanging point built for swinging loads, and a rig that is bolted to the floor.
I already have rings. Can I get the straps on their own?
Yes, the same numbered straps with carabiners are available as Competition Straps für Gymnastic Rings. They fit common gymnastic rings, whoever made them.
Do I need this in my home gym?
If you train alone and hardly ever change the height, honestly not really – simpler straps do the job there too. As soon as several people of different heights work on the same rings, the number system saves you time every week.

Customer reviews

I learned what these straps are worth at an event where every station had to hang exactly the same before the start. With cam buckles that is half your morning gone; with the numbers you are done before the coffee goes cold. What I like about this set on top of that: it arrives complete. I have seen it too often – somebody orders rings and straps separately and then stands in front of the rig because the carabiner does not fit through the loop.
