Why a 2.5 kg plate has to be 45 cm across
In the snatch and the clean, the starting height decides everything that comes after it. Load two small metal plates and the barbell hangs just above the floor – your back rounds, your shoulders tip forward, and you drill a position you would never take under a heavy load. The Full Size Technique Plate has the full 45 cm diameter. That puts the barbell at exactly the same height as a 20 kg bumper plate, while the weight stays at 2.5 kg a side. Which is precisely what you need when someone is learning the movement: plenty of reps, a clean position, next to no load on the joints.
Plastic instead of rubber – and what that means
The plate is made of plastic, 80 mm thick and finished in bold red with white lettering – on the shelf or on the rack you find it without searching. The 50 mm bore fits every Olympic barbell. One point we would rather make now than later: always load technique plates on their own, never mixed with metal or bumper plates. Otherwise the light plate takes the whole impact. And instead of overhead drops you set them down under control – plastic simply does not give the way rubber does. Stick to that and they will serve you for a long time.

Take the 2.5 kg when someone is learning the movement – with a light barbell that is the smallest sensible load. Once the pattern holds, add the Full Size Technique Plate 5kg. If you train at home and don't load daily, the Eco Technique Plate does the job.

Customer reviews
At our box the red 2.5s always sit within reach of the platform. As soon as someone starts out in weightlifting they go on the barbell – and suddenly the first pull looks like a pull instead of a bend-over. That is the whole trick with these plates.
